I guess you could say I’m a little excited about Earth Week, you know whatever, a week dedicated to sustainable practices, alternative energy and ending with Earth Day on the 22nd – kinda BRGG’s thing. But, to my surprise, it’s not only BRGG’s thing, but big media is getting all up in the green movement too. I was watching the new episode of “Khloe and Lamar” (please reserve your judgments) and up pops the “E!” logo all green and various irrelevant celebrities WAY past their 15 minutes saying how important our environment is and how we can protect it. WHOA?!?! corporate media boss hogs and whiny self absorbed starlets are promoting green technologies, earth week and everything good? What is going on? Have these selfish, wasteful beings grown a conscious – can they now see past 30 seconds from now? Well, it appears they, and the 7 old white dudes that run the media, have grown up, gotten responsible for their actions and believe this planet is worth saving. Do you? and if so, how will you do it?

WINNER IS ANNOUNCED!

That’s right eco-lovers! The dorm that de-shined the rest in WISPIRG’s 2011 ResHall Energy Competition has been announced and congratulations to Sullivan for turning it off and being the bestest and the least brightest! This competition was hotly contested, so every minute reduced from your shower time, every light turned off, every unused appliance unplugged made the difference; as it always does. Remember friends, only you can prevent global warming, and forest fires too, I guess. The party will be April 14th with a TON of sweet prizes. I’m SOOOO JEL! ZOMGzles!! I’ve heard red, silk long underwear. OH YEAH, making plans for Valentines Day 2012! While I attempt to become a resident of Sullivan, partially because of the prizes but mostly because they are badd-ass (two d’s necessary) energy savers, you eco-friends must continue your awesome sustainable practices.

Ban the Bottle!

Oh, yeah. Shit’s hitting the fan. All hands on deck. Stuff is going down. Elvis has left the building. I don’t exactly know what I’m attempting to express here, but something really neat-o will be happening this Friday (you know, “Fry-day, fry-day, cannot wait for Fry-day, it comes after Thursday” – yes, this is the stuff Rebecca Black is auto-tuning about). This “Fry-day” (it’s addicting, don’t judge me) Bascom Hill will be the scene, WISPIRG will be the organizers, and the overall shitty-ness of water bottles will be the plot. Bascom Hill will be decorated with some not-so-fun-facts about water bottles, and a garland of water bottles. This thing is about as big as a basilisk and two times as dangerous. It’s big, yellow eyes won’t kill you, but its carcinogens can, its contribution to global warming can. Walk on over to Bascom Hill this “Fry-day” (I’m going to stop now, for realz) and actually learn something that day. Ban the bottle!

ResHall energy competition: Fight for your Right to PARTAY!

Oh yeah baby girl! Parties be hitting up your social life, two special ones in particular: ResHall BLACKOUT party and the coveted party for the winning dorm of the ResHall Energy Competition. The BLACKOUT party will be in the beefeaters at the Union on this coming Sunday. So, like any other Sunday evening, you can BLACKOUT, except this time you’ll remember it and pants will be required. The winning dorm will receive an exclusive party for free stuff. Free stuff includes but is not restricted to: variety of food (that’s enough for me to work by candle light for the rest of my life), coupons for restaurants, a free haircut (get your hair chopped so you no longer have to shower -save water!) and many more!

What a day in the life of an activist! This morning at the state capital PSC 128 was debated upon whether wind regulations should be at the state or municipality level. If everything goes smoothly, by March 1, this rule will be applied; making it much easier to get clean wind energy to Wisconsin. If regulations are at the state level, turbine manufacture and production will create tons of jobs for WI residents! What a whirlwind (pun intended) of great changes to WI. Let’s junk coal and other means of dirty energy, all while pushing new jobs and stimulating this crap-hole economy everyone is jabbering about!

Another awesome event occurred today! The WISPIRG Kickoff went amazing! Awesome speakers (Mayor of Madison Dave Cieslewicz) awesome campaigns, and we all basked in out awesomeness!

Indeed I did tap that and I plan on tapping that again. I tapped that in a public food court, in the library, and even the privacy of my own home -although that just didn’t have the same thrill. If you’re think what I think you’re thinking, I think we’re on the same page, think about it. Oh tap water, the things you do to me. You’re so cheap, yet so clean and delicious. I like you just the way you are – you don’t need to get all dolled up in a plastic water bottle. It’s what’s on the inside that counts -water. I like you best at your most natural. Hell, if I was Bear Grilling it I’d lick you up doggy-style, but that’s a different story-but not really I still play dogs on the daily. So water, be all you are, do you, let your natural essence show. Ban the bottle and let water do it’s own thing!

A new year dawns upon us and with that comes a new season of Jersey Shore. Of course we have all reluctantly dipped our innocent toes into the phenomenon that is the Jersey tidal wave of fake tanning, hair gel, eyeliner, and “pimp” cars. Tanning light bulbs constantly running, aerosol hairspray cans running wild and all that cologne can only be detrimental to our environment. With all this resource wasting, we, the sane people of the country, need to step up our game and conserve. Lucky for you dear reader, the maybe three out there, BRGG is again hosting our annual ResHall Energy Competition. The entire month of February, residence hall’s energy use will be monitored and measured. The dorm that cuts their energy use the most WINS! And just because you may not live in the dorms does not mean you get left out of the energy saving fun! Have your own competition. See how much your energy bill decreases in the month of February and then continue those practices. Maybe with all that extra money you saved you can pay someone to kick any “guido” in the balls.
